Test type: Infographic published by Atalanta bicycle coalition

The audience: The American audience, and people from Atlanta in particular

Purpose: It wants to persuade you that cycling is a healthy and good idea and encourage them to do cycling more.

Textual features

  • Illustrations of bicycles are called pictograms

  • The last sentence at the top right section is a thesis statement and a short description of why it's good for the health and the community.

  • The three next boxes all have a pictogram, statement and source. Pictogram is for ease of understanding. Two are about popularity (highlighting that cycling is widespread, and they should join the mainstream) or the money-value benefit, health benefits and gains from cycling. Losing weight has the visualisation of 13 kettlebells.

  • The bottom left section is as brief as possible and compresses information using a pictogram.

  • Pictograms are there for ease of understanding.

  • The doubted line split the sections and the points.

  • There are 2 sections (items of information) with a pictogram, a short description and a key concept highlighting using green colour.

  • Split the advantages of cycling into 3 types of benefits: financial benefits, health improvements and stress on popularity.

  • Pictograms are all simplified so that all people are to them. However, all people's pictograms have the same feature: all people are slimly portraying the effect of cycling on health.
